The students are encouraged to use time outside of class to make sure they have enough time to write or type their final drafts. If a student wishes to work at home, here is how they access their files online:

Lesson: Today the students continued editing their rough drafts. The students used computers and went through an editing PowerPoint. Each slide of the PowerPoint was a different revising or editing task. For a copy of the PowerPoint, click here. When they finished, they swapped papers and peer edited. Lesson: Today we looked over the rubric for their narrative essays. We talked about the different skills I will be grading and how they will earn their scores. Then I explained the rest of the outline and the students had time to work on their rough drafts. The students will work on their rough drafts Monday-Thursday. Whatever is not finished during class on Thursday will be homework for Friday. Homework: Work on rough drafts Warm Up: The word said is dead! “Said” is a boring word. Brainstorm a list of other words that you could use instead of saying said.
Lesson: Today the students started their narrative rough drafts. We looked out the outline and discussed the three parts of an essay (introduction, body, and conclusion). I briefly explained the job of each paragraph and then read some student examples. Then the students started their introduction paragraphs. We talked about how to hook the reader and then started our rough drafts. See the examples below! Homework: None Warm Up: These sentences did not use correct punctuation or capitalization when using dialogue. Rewrite the sentences so they are following the dialogue rules and using dialogue correctly. (Page 8)
Lesson: Today we reviewed the rules for writing dialogue. Then I read some sample narrative stories that effectively used dialogue. Then the students practiced adding dialogue to a sample story in their narrative packets. Then we switched gears and talked about transition words. We went over the transition word pages in their packets and the students practiced writing using transition words. Tomorrow the students will start their rough drafts! Homework: None |
