Lesson: The students responded to the following quick write. Then we shared our stories as a class. On a winter night when you are out for a walk, you hear a noise. When you investigate, you find a gathering of snowmen having a meeting in the snow. Finish the story. After quick write time, the students either worked on missing work or chose one of the following activities.

Lesson: Today I explained how to do Step 5, which involves creating a plan for your rough draft. I modeled this with a sample prompt and the students made their own plans for their own informative prompts. The students completed these steps on page 13 of their packet. Lesson: Today the students shared their Mexico culture projects from last week. Homework: None Warm Up: Match the terms to the definition.
Lesson: Today I modeled Steps 1-4 of the writing process and then the students did these steps for their own informative writing prompt. The students met with partners and refined their brainstorming details. The students completed these steps on page 10 of their packet. For a copy of the packet, click here. Lesson: Today we practiced Steps 1-4 with another sample prompt. (See yesterday's post to read about Steps 1-4). Then the students wrote a quick informative paragraph about the sample prompt. The students practiced using an informative outline to structure an informative paragraph. The students have not learned specifically how to structure these sentences, so this was a practice to see what they already know.
