Lesson: Today the students practiced Steps 1-4 of informative writing. The first four steps are:
- Read and analyze the prompt. Identify the Topic, Audience, and Key Words.
- Stop and think about what you know about the topic.
- Brainstorm. Make a concept map to get all of the ideas out of your head and on paper.
- Pick and choose the best details from your brainstorm.
- What would a new student need to know to be successful at Excelsior Middle School?
- What is your ideal job, and why is it perfect for you?
- What is your favorite season, and why is it you favorite?
- If you could live in any city or state, where would you live and why?
- Who do you admire most? What characteristics about this person make them admirable?
- Choose an informative prompt that you already know a lot about. This must be phrased as a question and you must get it approved by me!
