Warm Up: Write the quote below at least two times using your neatest handwriting.
Lesson: Today the students completed their first quick write of the year. Approximately once a week, the students will respond to a creative writing prompt. Today's creative writing prompt was: First, I explained the RACE strategy for responding to writing prompts. The students will use this method to respond to all quick writes throughout the year. See the strategy below! After the students responded to the prompt, they shared their response in clock partners and as a class.
Homework: None Lesson: Today we set up clock partner sheets. This activity is a quick and easy way to create partnered groups. Each student has a clock partner sheet with the names of 12 classmates on each hour's slot. Each of these students, in turn, has this student's name in the matching hour slot on each of their clock sheets. Clock partners prevent students from always choosing the same partner and allow them to meet new people. See the image below!
Homework: None Lesson: We began class be revisiting the notebook expectations. Then the students were placed in small groups where they examined notebooks from previous years. In their groups, the students discussed the strengths and weaknesses of each notebook and wrote down their observations. Then we came back together as a class and the groups shared their ideas. The students made some excellent observations!
Homework: None Warm Up: The students completed a "What Kind of Learner Am I?" questionnaire.
Lesson: Today the students organized their composition notebook. The students will use their notebook in class every single day. We will use it for daily warm-ups, taking notes, responding to writing prompts, preparing for writing assignments, and much more. I passed out several writing resources that the students glued in the back of their notebook. This notebook will be a showcase of their work, so we discussed notebook expectations and how to keep their writing space neat. Then we looked at some examples from previous years, and the students identified how the example did or did not follow expectations. The students did an excellent job! Homework: None Warm Up: The students learned how to fill out their agenda for the week. The students will fill out their agenda every Monday.
Homework: Today the students finished learning about daily language arts routines and procedures. Additionally, I toured the classroom and showed the students where important places and student resources are located. Homework: None Lesson: Today the students continued to learn about classroom expectations and rules. We also played a few get-to-know-you activities. The students are off to a great start of middle school!
Homework: None Lesson: Hello, and welcome to a new school year! I will post here daily detailing what we did in language arts class. Today was a great start to what I am sure will be a wonderful year in language arts. Today the students got to know the classroom. We began class by taking attendance and passing out agendas, new schedules, and ID cards. Then I told the students a little bit more about myself. We found that we had a lot of things in common and I made some great connections! After getting to know me, we had a classroom scavenger hunt. Hopefully, the students feel more comfortable with the classroom. Throughout the next few days, the students will continue to learn about their classes and Excelsior Middle School.
Tomorrow we will do a get to know you activity and will discuss classroom rules and expectations. Here's to a great year! Homework: None |
