- What is a pronoun?
- What does a subject pronoun replace?
Lesson: Today we reviewed subject pronouns.
Then the students learned about object pronouns.
- An object pronoun replaces the direct object in a sentence.
The direct object is the noun that is receiving the action of the verb. First, we practiced identifying direct objects. See the following examples:
- Example: The boy kicked the ball.
- The verb is "kicked."
- The "ball" received the action kick.
- "Ball" is the direct object.
- Example: The cat chewed the toy.
- The verb is 'chewed."
- The "toy" received the action chewed.
- "Toy" is the direct object.
- Example: My parents drove Kelly to school.
- The verb is "drove."
- "Kelly" received the action drove.
- "Kelly" is the direct object.
Then we practiced replacing direct objects with object pronouns.
- Example: The boy kicked the ball.
- The direct object is "ball."
- You could replace the direct object "ball" with the object pronoun "it."
- Instead of saying "The boy kicked the ball" you could say, "The boy kicked it."
- Example: The cat chewed the toy.
- The direct object is "toy."
- You could replace the direct object "toy" with the object pronoun "it."
- Instead of saying "The cat chewed the toy" you could say, "The cat chewed it."
- Example: My parents drove Kelly to school.
- The direct object is "Kelly."
- You could replace the direct object "Kelly" with the object pronoun "her."
- Instead of saying "My parents drove Kelly to school" you could say, "My parents drove her to school."
We practiced several examples, and then the students completed the practice page in the packet (page 4).
