- My dogs name is rufus. I take h im to play at central park. He plays with other dog’s and chases toys i throw he chases his dog bones at home
Lesson: The students wrote their introduction paragraphs for their how-to papers. The introduction has the following requirements:
- 3-4 sentences
- Sentence 1: Attention grabbing first sentence
- Sentence 2: State your purpose
- Sentence 3: List your materials
As a class, we practiced writing attention grabbing first sentences. I suggested they ask a question as their first sentence. Stating their purpose would be the answer to their question. We practiced writing creative questions. Using the example of how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, I modeled writing an introduction paragraph. I color coded it so they could see each required part.
"Are you tired of going hungry when your parents aren't home to make dinner? I will explain how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for a quick, easy, and nutritious snack. To make the perfect peanut butter and jelly sandwich, you will need bread, peanut butter, jelly, a knife, and plate."
Homework: Finish your introduction paragraph
