Lesson: We started class by reviewing what we had learned about conjunctions. A conjunction is a word that connects words, phrases, or clauses. We started class by sharing the sentences they found in their books. Today the students learned about simple and compound sentences. A simple sentence is a sentence that expresses only one complete thought. It is one complete sentence. A compound sentence is made up of two simple sentences joined by a comma and a conjunction. For example:
- Simple Sentence - We swam at the pool.
- Compound Sentence - I listen to the news every night, and then I go to bed.
To practice simple and compound sentences, the students worked on pages 82-83 in their workbooks.
