Lesson: We are in a unit about figurative language. The students learned about personification today. The students wrote the definition and an example of personification in their figurative language packets on page 2. Personification is when an author gives an object, idea, or animal human traits of qualities. We went over several examples in class. For example, "The moon was smiling down at us." The object that is being personified is the moon, and the human quality is the ability to smile. We talked about how using figurative language, like personification, can spice up our writing and make it more interesting. The students worked on the personification practice page on page 3 in their figurative language packets.
Homework: Finish the personification practice page
