Lesson: Today I read the students Scary, Scary Halloween by Eve Bunting. This was my favorite Halloween children's book when I was a kid! I pointed out the strong nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs that were used in this story. The students then had to write their own Halloween story. The beginning of Scary, Scary Halloween starts with "I peer outside, there's something there. It makes me shiver, spikes my hair." The students had to start their story with this line, and then it was up to them where their story went. The students focused on using strong nouns and verbs and addding adjectives and adverbs to their sentences. The students shared their stories in class.
