- What is a singular noun? Give an example.
- What is a plural noun? Give an example.
Lesson: Today the students learned about plural nouns. We went over the seven different rules for how to make a noun plural. The seven rules are:
- Most nouns, just add s.
- Many nouns ending with a consonant + y change the y to an i and add es.
- Nouns ending with a vowel + y just add s.
- Nouns ending with ch, sh, ss, or x add es.
- Many nouns ending f or fe change this to av and add es.
- Nouns ending with a vowel + o add s.
- Nouns ending with a consonant +o add es.
On page 11 in their workbooks, the students completed the missing singulars and plurals and added more examples for each rule. Then the students were given a list of words. Using the chart on page 12, the students had to sort each word by their plural noun rule.
