Lesson: The students finished the Mexico geography textbook questions from yesterday. As a class, we discussed and corrected the questions. Then we played a geography game called, "Where am I?" Lesson: Today the students learned more about Mexico's geography. The students read Chapter 2 Section 1 in their textbooks. They learned all about the land and physical features in Mexico. Lesson: Today the students presented their Time Capsule Projects. After presentations, we began our unit on Mexico. The students have already learned about the history of Mexico, and will now learn about Mexico's geography and culture. The students were given a Mexico packet. Using an atlas, the students labeled the Mexico map. Countries were labeled in red, bodies of water in blue, mountain ranges in brown, and physical features in green. Homework: Finish map All Time Capsule Projects were due today. We will present them at the start of class on Tuesday.
During Social Studies and iExcel today, team 6C held a reward activity for students with no missing work. If a student had missing assignments, they worked in a work room until all their assignments were turned in. The students watched CNN Student News. Click here to watch today's episode.
Lesson: The students will be working on their Time Capsule Projects Monday through Wednesday. Individually or in partners, the students are making a time capsule. The time capsule will be full of artifacts for one of the following ancient civilizations: the Mayas, Aztecs, or Incas. The students will need a decorated shoe box to put all of their artifacts in. Today in class, I explained the project, the students picked their partners, chose their civilization, and started their time capsule. Lesson: Today the students completed a Venn Diagram on the Mayans, Aztecs, and Incas. They used all their materials from our study of these three ancient civilizations to complete the diagram. They found facts that were unique to each civilization as well as facts that they all had in common. They wrote three words per section on the Venn-Diagram and wrote a sentence explaining each word. Lesson: Today the students filled in information about the Incas in the Maya, Aztec, and Inca comparison chart. I used the attached PowerPoint to do this.
