Warm Up: We are starting a new unit about Mexico! Do you know which flag is the Mexican flag? Lesson: Today we began our unit on Mexico! Throughout the year, the students will learn about the geography, history, and culture of Mexico, Central America, South America, the Caribbean, and Canada this year. The students started a physical map of Mexico today. See the image below. Tomorrow we will check this map and the students will learn more about Mexico's geography.

Lesson: Today the students practiced the checks and balances system in an activity I call the Power Grab Game. The students have been learning about the checks and balances system and how each branch of the government balances out the power of the other branches. I gave each partner group a card that listed their branch and a power they have within the checks and balances system. I announced an action, and if their checks and balances system could counteract my action, they stood up and shared their checks and balances card. For example:

Lesson: Today the students played games on iCivics to learn about the Judicial Branch. See the descriptions below! While the students were playing these games, some students worked on revising their executive branch formative assessments that I passed back yesterday.

Lesson: We started class by revisiting their executive branch formative assessments from yesterday. We corrected them as a class, and some students will take an additional formative assessment tomorrow if they were not proficient on the first one. Then the students learned about the judicial branch. In pairs, the students read a section of the textbook about the judicial branch. They completed a note-taker that they glued in their composition notebooks. Homework: None Warm Up:
