Warm Up: The students watched CNN Student News and filled out the Monday portion of the CNN sheet. Lesson: The students will spend all of this week working on the Mexico Landscape Project. Mexico is a land of contrasts. The landscape, the vegetation, and the climate vary greatly from region to region. In this project, the students will explore what the land is like throughout Mexico. Here are the steps to the project: 1. Read pages 6-9 in Mexico: The Land 2. Follow the directions to fold, cut, and glue your flip-book. When it is finished, it should look like the picture at the bottom of the page. 3. Write the title of each landscape on the front flaps. You must include all of the following landscapes. Six will go on the front flaps. Choose your favorite landscape to be on the backside of your flip book.
4.On the inside of each flap, describe each landscape in 3-5 sentences. Use your own words! 5. Color in the landscape on the map. 6. On the backside, label your favorite landscape. You will describe this landscape in detail. You will use the book and the internet to describe the following:

Lesson: We reviewed and corrected the Mexico map that students worked on in class yesterday. The students also read an article about Mexico's geography. This article is on page 20 of their booklet. Lesson: The students worked on a map of Mexico. Using an atlas to help, the students labeled countries bordering Mexico, major bodies of water, mountain ranges, and land forms. Lesson: The students worked on a writing assignment on pages 12 and 13 of their booklets. The students were given the following writing prompt: "If your family were planning to move to Latin America, which of its three regions would you want to live in?" Using their notes, the students responded to this prompt. They had to choose the format of a journal entry, a letter, or a postcard. Their response had to be 5-7 sentences. They had to explain at least three supporting reasons for their choice. Homework: Finish writing assignment Warm Up: The students watched CNN Student News and filled out the Tuesday section of the CNN sheet.
Lesson: The students used all that they have learned so far about Latin America to compare the three regions. The three regions of Latin America are Middle America, South America, and the Caribbean. Using their notes and their textbooks, the students compared the three regions in the chart on P. 11. Homework: Finish P. 11 The students will have a test on Friday. The test is over Chapter 1 in their textbooks. The students are allowed to use their notes. Any worksheets so far that students wish to redo (which is highly encouraged!) must be done before the test.
