Wednesday and Thursday, the students listened to a presentation by speakers from Hills Bank. They shared information about the business project the students are doing in reading class.

In the spirit of learning about Mexico and Mexican holidays, we had a fiesta in class! Here are some of the things we did:

Lesson: Today the students finished and shared their Mexico fiesta posters. Tomorrow in class, we will have a Mexican fiesta! The students must have all work turned in to participate. Several students voluntarily signed up to bring in things for the fiesta. We will be making homemade salsa and guacamole, learning traditional Mexican dances, and many other fun activities! Lesson: Today the students learned about different Mexican holidays. The students were partnered up and assigned a particular Mexican holiday. In the book, Mexico: The People, the students read about their assigned holiday. They started working on a fiesta poster to advertise their holiday. Their poster must include...

Lesson: Today the students learned about one of Mexico's most important holidays, Cinco de Mayo. The students learned why Cinco de Mayo is celebrated by reading an article on page 22 of their Mexico packets. Then, on page 23, the students wrote their own questions about the article, rather than answered questions that were already made. They did very well on this! Then they took their questions around the class and interviewed their classmates to see if they could answer their questions without looking at the text. They really enjoyed this way of questioning! Then the students worked on pages 24-27. Of these four pages, they were required to complete one. The other three are available for a few extra points. Lesson: This week, the students will learn all about Mexico's culture! They will learn all about their food, music, art, dancing, and holidays. Today, the students read several pages in their Mexico packets about Mexico's culture. The students added facts to the chart on page 19 in their packets. Halfway through class, I shared a Power Point with visuals all about Mexico's culture. The students added more facts to the chart. Homework: None During Social Studies and iExcel, we had a reward day for students with no missing work. All students with missing work stayed in a work room.

Lesson: The students had 15 minutes to finish the questions from Chapter 2 Section 2 and take the section quiz. Afterwards, we corrected these questions as a class. Then the students read the story behind the design of Mexico's flag. On page 16 of their Mexico's packet, they colored the Mexican flag. Lesson: We continued reading Chapter 2 Section 2 in the book. This chapter covers Mexico's history and culture. We read this section aloud as a class and paused throughout the chapter to discuss some of the major points and check for comprehension.
