Lesson: The students got to see their Constitution tests. Overall, most students did very well! Then we learned about the Legislative Branch. Lesson: Today the students finished taking notes about the Bill of Rights. Then I passed back a formative assessment about the Preamble that the students took on Friday. We corrected this as a class. Then I passed out the Constitution study guide, and we went over a few of the concepts. The students will have a test over the Constitution on Wednesday. Homework: Study for the test!! Lesson: We started class with a short formative assessment (knowledge check) about the Preamble. Then I collected their Preamble worksheet and the Preamble Race. Several students had the Preamble memorized, which was very impressive! Then we talked about the Bill of Rights. The students wrote down the Bill of Rights on a note-taker in their composition notebooks. Homework: None Warm Up:
Lesson: Today the students learned more about the Preamble. We read a chapter in our textbooks, We the People. This chapter talked about the Preamble and why the Constitution was written. Then we listened to the Preamble song (click here) and practiced reciting the Preamble. Then the students rewrote the preamble in student-friendly language. Lesson: Today the students learned about the Preamble of the Constitution. They were given a copy of the Preamble, which they glued in their notebooks. We also listened to the Preamble song. To listen to this song, click here. All week long, they will be memorizing the Preamble, using this song and the Great Preamble Race Game. The students were given a game board full of empty spaces. To earn a space on the game board, the students must recite the Preamble to an adult or student. Each time they recite the Preamble, they get a signature on their game board. If they explain one of the phrases, they get an extra square signed. The Preamble Race is due Friday. Homework: Great Preamble Race due Friday Warm Up: Use a map of the United States to answer these questions.
Lesson: Today we began our unit about the United States government. I introduced the Constitution and we learned about the general format. I used a PowerPoint and a note-taker and the students took notes on the structure of the Constitution. On another note-taker, the students filled in a Constitution Table of Contents. They glued these resources in their composition notebooks.
